As someone with osteoarthritis in my facet joins, my lower back had little movement and was painful at times. Also I had a lack of core strength. I was apprehensive that that I wouldn't be capable of doing the class.
Now I look forward to going to my yoga class once a week and really don't like it if I'm unable to attend. My weekly yoga class works on my back in a good way and builds up my core strength. The secondary benefits for me are improved flexibility and strength generally plus a sense of well-being. With the added benefit of a good night's sleep afterwards.
The one best result has been greater flexibility in my lower back which gives me the confidence to do other forms of exercise such as running

I'm fairly active mainly off road running, some biking and circuit training, as so many people do I wasn't stretching as much as I should have been, which meant I was suffering with stiffness, lack of flexibility and beginning to pick up injuries in the lower back area. I also tended to breath from my chest rather than from my diaphram.
I'd been to a couple of other yoga classes before attending Bodhi classes and I felt that they weren't for me. I found them to be large classes with too many people, which made me feel disconnected with the teacher. Also I felt that the classes were to static, there wasn't the movement I wanted. So my reservations where, would I enjoy Bodhi Movement's classes, would they suit my needs or would they be like the other classes I'd attended.
The process have been fantastic, I really enjoy my weekly classes and wouldn't be with out them. They have really helped with strengthening and loosening the physical side of my body, as well as giving my mind time out from a busy life. I feel much more in tune with my body as a whole. Because the classes are small, i feel much more connected with the teacher and find that pace and movement is perfect for me.

Before attending my yoga class I was basically injured, with appallingly stiff, immobile shoulders from years of mountain biking. I could barely raise my right arm above my head and couldn't get my left even up to shoulder height. My lower back and hips were stiff and my fused left fore-foot had caused real stiffness in my toes and ankle. All together a bit of a 'wreck'!
I didn't have reservations as such but just thought that most of the poses would be impossible and too painful.
The process has been pretty up and down. It has been hot, hard, painful and a real effort to fit in around my busy, time consuming job. However, the 'ups' have been so, so many.. feeling myself getting better and better as the weeks went by, realising that my breathing was controllable, the pain was lessening and my shoulders were slowly but surely unlocking!!
The one best result? Getting my upper body mobility back and the effect that this has had on not only my mountain bike riding but day to day activities like washing my hair and changing gear!

I've always enjoyed trying to stay fit but this tended to involve lots of cardio vascular type activities like cycling, walking, running but this meant I didn't balance these out with anything stretchy and I felt that as I was getting older I was starting to 'sieze up' and I noticed that my lower back was starting to ache.
A colleague had been coming to Bodhi Movement's classes for a while and every day after she had been to a class she came into work and couldn't stop talking about how great it was and how good the teacher was (it's true!) I had been going to pilates for some time and although I had really enjoyed it I felt as though I wanted something more. She brought me a gift voucher for my birthday. I was worried that it would be too hard - I've seen loads of pictures in books showing crazy poses and often with 'apparatus' like straps and blocks all of which looked quite scary .
So I used my gift voucher and loved yoga from start. I love the structure of the lessons, allowing the mind to calm down after a full on day, the mindfullness of moving through the poses and best of all (of course!) the relaxation at the end. I can now see that I am stronger as well as more flexible than when I started.
I love the combination of mind and body. I often start the class in a frazzled state of mind and feel weary. By the end of the class my mind is calm and my body feels energised and 'light'. I wish that I had started years ago. I think I'm a bit of a convert because now I think that everyone should do some yoga, whatever their situation.
